A Trip to Vedanthangal

Vedanthangal is a bird sanctuary in Kancheepuram district. From Chennai Vandaloor Zoo it is around 50kms down south on GST Road (NH 45). After crossing Chengalpettu, you have to ask 2-3 times about how far it is (that is what we did). Keep going on GST road until you see a big sign board on the right hand side of the road where you have to turn right. As you will be on left (assuming coming from Chennai), you have to go ahead and take a u-turn. After taking the u-turn there is a Reliance petrol pump. We went there to fill up. Remember one thing, that Reliance petrol pump is a big CHEAT. They cheated us for Rs200 and that to very cunningly. We understood it just while leaving the pump, but we decided not to protest because first of all we did not know Tamil and secondly we did not want to spoil the day with beginning with a quarrel. The best thing is to avoid that petrol pump but if at all you have to go then shut down the ignition and get out of the car and stand right in front of the meter and don't even wink for a fraction of second.
Well after that take the first left turn (now you are on the opposite direction). Then go on for around 5-6 km. The road condition is extremely bad so don't be surprise if you get a flat tyre. Luckily we made it to the place. There are lot of bifurcations. Do not take any bifurcation until there is a board telling you to in a particular direction. Many times we thought of returning back due to road condition but as we had gone so far we went on......
Take your own food and water and yes do take a binocular if you want to watch the birds close.
Below are some photographs from our trip.
